Assessments

KNOT offers the following assessments:

  • Fine motor assessment (kindergarten):

    This assessment focuses on screening fine motor skills for children in kindergarten. It screens the foundational skills needed for competent fine motor skills, pencil grasp, handwriting, scissor skills and visual perceptual skills. The report will provide recommendations and strategies informed by the results. 
  • Fine motor assessment (lower primary):

    This assessment focuses on screening the fine motor and handwriting skills for children in Prep to Grade 2. It screens the foundational skills needed for competent fine motor skills as well as pencil grasp, handwriting, scissor skills and visual perceptual skills. The report will provide recommendations and strategies informed by the results. 
  • Handwriting assessment (upper primary):

    This assessment focuses on assessing handwriting skills for children in Grade 3 - 6. Handwriting legibility & speed, pencil grasp, posture and visual perceptual skills will be assessed. The report will provide recommendations and strategies based informed by the results.
  • Handwriting assessment (high school):

    This assessment includes the DASH (Detailed Assessment of Handwriting Speed) and the Beery VMI (The Beery-Buktenica Developmental Test of Visual-Motor Integration). Reports can be targeted to different audiences including school teachers, or for applications / special consideration for exams etc. 
  • One off school observations

    School observation assessment to identify barriers to your child's engagement in school and recommendations / strategies to assist
  • Sensory assessment:

    This assessment includes formal assessment (Sensory Profile 2) and clinical observation to assess your child’s sensory preferences and sensory processing challenges. It includes a 1.5 hour interview with the parent and observation of your child, and follows up with a 1 hour meeting to discuss results and recommendations. 
  • Functional Capacity Assessment:

    This assessment provides an in depth report on your child's functioning across all developmental domains; self-care, communication, motor skills, learning, self-management and social skills. This may form part of an NDIS application or review. 
  • Disability inclusion assessment and reports:

    Schools in the outer east regions of Melbourne are transitioning to a new funding scheme to apply for an integration aid at school. KNOT can provide a tailored assessment and report designed to support your child’s school in this funding application.
